Literature & Social Justice

This course considers how literature imagines social change. Exploring how writers narrate and critique our pasts and presents, we track the kinds of liberatory models literature offers. We will look at literary fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and speculative fiction. Possible authors include: Ursula LeGuin, Toni Morrison, James Baldwin, bell hooks, Natasha Trethewey, Claudia Rankine, and Kazuo Ishiguro.
